The Tele Vue Delos Eyepiece - First Light
Posted by Kieron McGrath - 15:35 on 16 September 2011
I finally got to try out the 10mm Tele Vue Delos eyepiece last night. It was cloudy but with clear intervals, and the Moon was up.
I used the eyepiece with my Tele Vue 102 refractor to give a magnification of x88.
This eyepiece lives up to its reputation. The Moon matched the field of view almost exactly. Lunar detail was superb, with no sign of colour fringing. Contrast was excellent and further enhanced by the novel movable eyeguard system. You can raise, lower and lock the eyeguard to suit your own viewing preferences.
Star fields were sharp and bright with no visible distortions. I tried viewing Jupiter but the seeing was poor, so that will have to wait until another time.
I intend to take the eyepiece to Kelling Heath Star Camp next week.
Excerpt from Sky & Telescope, June 2011, review of Delos eyepieces:
WHAT WE LIKE:
Essentially perfect optics
"Immersive" observation experience
WHAT WE DON'T LIKE:
Trying to nail down why the observing experience is so pleasurable.
