Orion Barlow Lenses Give More Power To Your Eyepieces.

One of the most useful and cost effective tools in an amateur astronomers accessory case is a good quality barlow lens. A barlow is a simple concave lens or doublet that, when placed between a telescope's objective lens or mirror and the eyepiece, increases the instrument's effective focal length and boosts the magnifying power of any eyepiece by 1.5x to 3x. This means that your 25mm eyepiece becomes a 12.5mm eyepiece when used with a 2x barlow lens. This doubles the number of eyepieces in your collection. barlows have other advantages too. They allow greater, more comfortable eye relief at high magnifications than the equivalent shorter focal length eyepieces allow. This is of great benefit to spectacle wearers. In addition, barlows can increase the contrast of extended deep-sky objects by dimming background sky glow.

Orion Shorty 2x Barlows are just 2-7/8" long - about half the length of a regular barlow lenses - for added convenience and versatility. They're fully coated and fully baffled, with extra high power achromatic lens systems. Shorty Barlows work in all types of telescopes, including refractors and reflectors with obstructions or low-profile focusers in which longer barlows don't work. Compared to an eyepiece, Shorty Barlows require an additional ¼" of focus in-travel.

Deluxe 2x Barlow A superb barlow offering a 2 element achromatic negative lens, multicoated and internally baffled rather than painted black inside. This baffling results in noticeably higher contrast when observing faint objects that are near bright stars or other sources of glare. The optical system uses a multi-coated 2 element achromatic negative lens, providing 2x magnification when used with any eyepiece. The black-anodized body is a uniform diameter to the very end of the barrel, so you can insert the the barlow directly into star diagonals, preserving the 2x magnification factor. Not suitable for Newtonian Reflectors.

Orion Tri-Mag 3x Barlow Lens.

Extra Magnification for Higher-Power Viewing and Guiding For those observing targets and applications where you need more power than your eyepieces alone can provide, we offer the Tri-Mag. It gives a big 3x magnification boost to any 1.25" eyepiece it's used with. This is desirable for lunar and planetary observing and for extracting higher powers from "fast" telescopes such as f/5 and f/4 refractors and reflectors. For long-exposure astrophoto-graphy, the power amplification provided by the Tri-Mag allows more precise guiding and use of a shorter guide scope, such as a rich-field refractor (e.g., the Orion ShortTube 80). With the Tri-Mag barlow you can use longer-focal-length eyepieces to achieve high powers, which offers the benefits of better edge sharpness and eye relief than you'd get using the equivalent high-power eyepiece without the barlow.

The Tri-Mag utilizes a multi-coated achromatic "negative" lens that effectively triples the focal length of the telescope's optics. The housing is precision machined from aluminum stock and black anodized to a hard finish. Both the housing and the chrome portion of the barrel are glare threaded and blackened inside to provide maximum contrast. The lens end of the barrel is threaded to accept standard filters.
