Orion Basic Colour Filter Set.
Set Of Four Colour Filters For Planetary Viewing.
Once you try an Orion color filter for viewing the planets and the Moon, you'll want the entire set! Veteran astronomers are convinced that planetary observation is almost alwavs dramatically improved by color filters.
Earth's atmosphere is in constant fluctuation; turbulent air currents blur fine surface detail on solar system objects viewed through a telescopentrast and surface markings. Faint contrasting areas blend together due to "irradiation", a distortion of the boundaries bween light and dark surfaces.
When you employ an Orion color filter to zero in on a narrow region of the spectrum, the scattering of interfering wavelengths is enormously reduced. Suddenly, the smeared, pale bands of Jupiter resolve into loops and festoons. Delicate markings appear on Saturn's globe, and the Cassini ring division darkens and solidifies. Mars' polar caps stand out like tiny pearls, and the vague lunar rifles acquire greater depth and contrast. Bad "seeing" becomes acceptable; good "seeing" becomes superb!
Without a filter, if you view a bright planet near the horizon, the rays of reflected sunlight will be refracted and scattered, and the image may be afflicted by swirling, colored ghosts. Some undercorrected refractor objectives or simple oculars may also cause such chromatic distortion. By selecting the right Orion color filter, you will fully eliminate unwanted spurious artifacts and see a clean, crisp image. All wavelengths not passed by Orion color filters are absorbed by the filter pigment and do not enter the eyepiece.
Because many planets have a characteristic color (such as the reddish hue of Mars), you will dramatically increase detail by reducing the predominant hues, uncovering hidden contrast and surface markings. Thats why "the Red Planet" may be most effectively enhanced with a green filter!
For visual use, simply thread a filter into the barrel of any standard eyepiece. For planetary and lunar photography, Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope owners can attach the filter to the eyepiece used inside the tele-extender body. If you use a universal camera adapter that fits on a focuser, filters can be threaded directly into the adapter.
Orion color filters are made from renowned Hoya optical glass and are vat-dyed for even color distribution. Unlike some filters, they are not cut from plate glass, but are individually precision ground and polished from molded master blanks. Light loss and ghost imaging is negligible, thanks to efficient anti-reflection coatings. The precision-anodized aluminum cells are double-threaded to permit stacking and labelled with the Wratten fllter number and name. Each filter includes an individual foam lined protective case. Please note that filters are not sold individually.
