This ‘baker’s dozen’ set of Orion eyepiece filters will color your view of other worlds! Using color filters helps reveal subtle details when viewing the planets and Moon through any telescope. Color filters enhance specific features by blocking certain wavelengths of light and allowing others to pass through to your eye.
Our biggest 1.25” eyepiece filter set ever provides a substantial spectrum of 13 individual glass color filters for optimized planetary and lunar views. The Deluxe Set of 13 Color Eyepiece Filters includes a #8 Light Yellow, #11 Yellow-Green, #12 Yellow, #21 Light Orange, #23 Deep Orange, #25A Red, #38A Violet, #47 Deep Violet, #56 Light Green, #58 Green, #80A Medium Blue, #82A Light Blue, and a neutral-density Moon filter for use with threaded 1.25” eyepieces.
Here are a few suggestions on how each included color eyepiece filter can enhance your planetary and lunar views:
#8 Light Yellow filter increases contrast on lunar features, Martian landscape, the cloud belts of Jupiter, the red-orange zonal detail on Jupiter and some dusky details on Uranus and Neptune.
#11 Yellow-Green filter helps accentuate contrast on Martian landscape features and in Jupiter’s cloud bands. The #11 Yellow filter will also reveal cloud detail on Saturn, and makes the Cassini Division (the large gap between the main rings of Saturn) more visible.
#12 Yellow filter enhances contrast of lunar features such as mountains, craters, and lunar seas. Also coaxes out details of dark features of the Martian landscape and cloud detail in Mars’ thin atmosphere. Improves contrast on the crescent of Venus, and helps resolve the cloud belts and polar-regions of Jupiter.
#21 Light Orange filter sharpens visibility of dark surface markings and polar-regions of Mars. Martian surface dust storms become easily visible with the #21 Light Orange eyepiece filter. Also improves contrast on Jovian cloud belts and polar-regions as well as Saturn’s belts and polar-regions.
#23 Deep Orange filter adds contrast to lunar features and enhances edge surface detail on Mars. Also improves contrast of Jupiter’s cloud belts, festoons, and the red spot. The #23 Deep Orange eyepiece filter will help define the cloud belts and polar-regions of Saturn too.
#25A Red filter enhances Martian surface details in large telescopes, reveals cloud definition on Venus, and significantly accentuates bluish cloud regions on Jupiter and Saturn.
#38A Violet filter is best used for Venusian clouds, Martian dust storms, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, the disc of Jupiter as well as Jupiter’s main equatorial cloud belts and Saturn’s belts.
#47 Deep Violet filter excels at coaxing detail from Saturn’s rings, Martian polar caps, and to resolve the crescent of Venus.
#56 Light Green filter enhances details on the Moon, dust storms on Mars, and in Saturn’s polar and belt regions.
#58 Green filter enhances contrast of blue and red structures on Jupiter (including the Red Spot), melt lines around Martian polar ice caps, and accentuates Saturn’s cloud belts.
#80A Medium Blue filter enhances details in Jupiter’s belts and Red Spot, high clouds and polar caps on Mars, lunar surface details, and Venus cloud features.
#82A Light Blue filter makes polar icecaps on Mars much more visible and nicely highlights Martian polar hoods and clouds. The #82A eyepiece filter is especially useful for viewing low contrast detail on the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in general.
The included neutral-density Moon filter reduces glare when observing the bright surface of the Moon, allowing transmission of only a portion of the reflected light to significantly increase contrast. Not only will you see more surface features, but you can study them in greater comfort, thanks to the glare-cutting filter.
Each filter features a high quality machined cell and arrives in its own protective plastic case so you can easily keep them in pristine condition.
