Orion Explorer Large-Aperture Binoculars
It's Like Exploring a Whole 'Nother Night Sky!
It's the same night sky, all right. But with our jumbo Explorer binoculars, you'll see it like never before. Their large-aperture, fully multi-coated optics provide exceptional light gathering capability for stargazing. And if terrestrial observing is more your speed, you will appreciate Explorers' long-distance range, wide field of view, and stunning resolution.
These are wonderfully well made binoculars. The BAK-4 prisms and internal baffling ensure sharp images and pleasing contrast. The barrels are cross-reinforced with an aluminum rod and objective cell cuffs for maximum structural rigidity and unflinching optical alignment. A sliding 1/4"-20 mounting post is held captive on the rod, for coupling the binocular to a tripod (recommended) and achieving optimum balance.
Both models provide a generous 4mm exit pupil and the serious magnifying power you need to resolve subtle details in your target object. The eyepieces focus individually, which affords a higher degree of focusing precision than center-focus mechanisms. And the long eye relief even lets eyeglass wearers see an unrestricted field of view.
When you do get your new Explorer binocular, get ready for some late nights! Because you won't want to stop observing that seemingly new, more star-studded sky. Includes heavy-duty aluminum case.
We recommend the Orion Paragon Plus XHD Tripod for use with these binoculars. Details below.
Please note: Orion have renamed the Explorer binoculars, GiantView. The specifications are identical.
Orion Paragon Plus XHD Tripod. Extra heavy-duty tripod provides support for giant binoculars, cameras, spotters and telescopes. Two-way fluid pan head with tension adjustment knobs on both axes for smooth, controlled motion Tripod height fully extended is 67". Weighs 9 lbs. Includes 1/4"-20 dovetail shoe, cushion/spike feet and bubble level.
For anything more than casual use you need a tripod that's very stable, strong enough to withstand some serious abuse, and yet moves with fluid smoothness. Our Paragon professional tripods fill the bill, providing heavy-duty support for giant binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, and scopes such as the Orion ShortTube 80, Apex 90, 102 and 127, GrandView, Arcadia, and Resolux and GiantView binoculars.
The Paragon-Plus XHD tripod is constructed almost exclusively of aluminum, making it stronger at key stress points where other tripods fail. It features large, adjustable aluminum- tube legs with ridged helical locks. The legs are tri-braced to the center elevator housing for extra stability. The tripod is tall when fully extended, putting binoculars easily at eye level for most people.
This extra heavy-duty tripod holds heavier loads. Tube legs 1-1/4" max. dia.; each leg laterally braced with dual 3/4" aluminum tubes. Elevator shaft 1-1/8" dia., 11-3/4" travel. Height fully extended 67"; folds to 34". Weighs 9 lbs.
The Paragon-Plus XHD tripod comes with a two-way fluid-type pan head. It features tension adjustment knobs on both axes for wonderfully smooth, controlled motion. The pan head can be raised or lowered on its aluminum rack-and-pinion elevator post with a hinged hand crank. Panning is easy with the 11"-long adjustable handle. The quick-release 1/4"-20 dovetail shoe makes attaching and detaching your instrument from the pan head a snap. Other nice features include convertible cushion/spike feet and built-in bubble level.
