Orion Neutral-Density Moon Filters.
Cures Moon Watching Washout And Eyestrain.
The Moon's disk, even at partial phases, is intensely bright with reflected sunlight. The glare washes out most of the craters, rilles, and other surface details from view and takes a toll on your viewing comfort.
Our neutral density Moon Filters reduce brightness and improve contrast by allowing transmission of only a small portion of the incoming light. You will see more details on the lunar surface and without eyestrain. The filters also reduce irradiation, which is the distortion at the boundary between light and dark areas, such as along the lunar terminator. Antireflection coatings applied to the glass prevent ghosting.
These filters work wonders for Moon-watching with any type or size of telescope. They are also effective for viewing bright planets and for splitting double stars. The filters' anodized aluminium cells thread into the barrel of any standard telescope eyepiece.
We have two models, which transmit 13% or 25% of incoming light, respectively.
Moon Filter 13% Transmission - Provides the most dimming, transmitting 13% of incoming light. Best for use on quarter to full Moon phases or with larger telescopes.
Moon Filter 25% Transmission - Transmits 25% of incoming light. Ideal for viewing crescent Moon phases and for smaller aperture telescopes, for which less dimming is required.
The Orion 2" Moon Filter is especially useful to owners of large-aperture scopes, in which the Moon's brightness can be overwhelming. It uniformly reduces light over the entire visible spectrum.
Orion Variable Polarizing Filter. This versatile filter acts like a dimmer switch for your telescope, toning down the brightness of the Moon or planets to a level that is comfortable. The recuction in brightness and glare unmasks detail and greatly improves contrast.
The filter consists of two high-grade glass polarizing filters in a rotating cell that allows you to adjust the amount of light transmission from 1% to 40%. Just where you set it will depend on your observing target, on the aperture and magnification of your telescope, and on how bright an imageyour eyes are comfortable with. Great for terrestrial observing, too, especially on sunny days.
