Turn Left At Orion Turn Left At Orion

A Hundred Night Sky Objects To See In A Small Telescope - And How To Find Them. Turn Left At Orion - New Third Edition.

A guidebook for beginning amateur astronomers, Turn Left At Orion provides all the information you need to observe the Moon, planets and a whole host of celestial objects. Large format diagrams show these objects exactly as they appear in a small telescope (50-70mm or 2-3" aperture) and for each object there is information on the current state of our astronomical knowledge.

Thoroughly revised and updated, this new edition contains a chapter describing spectacular deep sky objects visible from the southern hemisphere, as well as tips on how to observe the upcoming transits of Venus. It also includes a discussion of Dobsonian telescopes, with hints of using your personal computer and the internet as aids for planning an observing session.

Unlike many guides to the night sky, this book is specifically written for observers using small telescopes. Clear and easy-to-use, this fascinating book will appeal to skywatchers of all ages and backgrounds. No previous knowledge of astronomy is needed.

All tables of data have been updated to the year 2001.

"Should be packaged with every first telescope ..." - Chet Raymo, Sky & Telescope.

"This is a GREAT Book!... This book is unique, with easy, clear directions on how to find these celestial objects, the best conditions, and what you will see." - Colin Hague, Event Horizon.

"Wonderful ... it is one of those books about which you say, 'If only I had something like this when I was a beginner.'" - Journal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

A Personal View by Kieron McGrath - . This really is a superb book and the best we have found to help the novice astronomer find their way around the sky. Each object covers 2 pages containing three or four illustrations showing the view with the naked eye, through the finderscope and through the telescope. The text describes Where to Look, In the Finderscope, In the Telescope, Comments and What You're Looking At. Unlike many similar books, the object descriptions are for users of SMALL telescopes. Apart from a couple of stupid remarks about computer controlled telescopes and CCD cameras, this is a great book and I recommend it highly.
